SMART-BIT
FREE-SPINNING STOP COLLAR
The Smart-Bit stop collar spins free of the drill bit, preventing marring or burnishing of the deck surface. The ridges on the stop collar and the easy to read imprinted Smart-Bit name make it easy to see when the stop collar stops spinning. When the spinning stops, the hole is completed. No more guess work or the need to maintain constant manual depths. Works like magic!
ANTI-CLOG DEBRIS CAVITY
Other stop collars are flush mounted to the countersinking bit. Waste material gets compacted between the countersink flutes (blades) and the work surface, causing the hole to be too shallow. Not so with Smart-Bit. Smart-Bit's cavity is large enough so that the waste is free of the countersink. For almost all decking materials, the waste simply falls out onto the deck surface after each hole is completed. Occasionally cleaning is necessary when using some composites. (See Performance Tips for a simple self-cleaning technique.)
POWERBOLIC HIGH-SPEED STEEL DRILL BIT
The Powerbolic bit on the new Smart-Bithas a specially designed fluting that cuts through decking more than twice as fast as standard wood bits, even dense composites and hardwoods. (Watch our online video demo for a side-by-side speed comparison.)
SET SCREW ACCESS
Replacing bits on the new Smart-Bit is quick and easy. Simply place the supplied 3/32" hex wrench in the access hole and loosen the 3/16" set screw. Remove the old bit and insert a new one, aligning the flat orange side with the set screw. Tighten, and you're ready to go!
NO-MARK RUBBER RING
Even though the stop collar is free-spinning, Smart-Bitalso adds a rubber O-ring to make sure it stops properly and without leaving any marks behind.
PRE-SET COUNTERSINK
Smart-Bit matches the head diameter, head angle and countersink depth of corresponding screw sizes for the perfect hole and fit, all of which are pre-set in the tool assembly.
PRE-SET SHAFT LENGTH
Together with the countersink, the overall hole depth for the #7 Trim, #8 Trim and #10 Flat sizes will be 1-1/8" deep, which is what is needed for deck lumber up to 5/4" nominal size.
